About 10 years ago, one of my friends sent me a Christmas card that was a sample he'd gotten in the mail as an offer to personalize them and buy a box. Instead of buying more cards, he got a marker and crossed out the "your name here" statement, and roughly wrote his name in below it. He got an old, used envelope and put a sticker with my name and address over what was on it already. I thought it was pretty funny.
The next year, I sent him the same card with his name crossed out and mine underneath it. He sent another, different card that year, but still the same kind of thing.
Over the years, we've simply sent the same cards back and forth. One has a ring on it where a coffee cup had been set on it. The other has a pizza stain and had been folded up and creased.
Funny how they started out as a joke, but so many people got a laugh from it. Now the cards have sentimental value, and we're often afraid they'll get lost in the mail.
Just an odd holiday story. Maybe you know someone you could send a birthday card with "birthday" crossed out and "Christmas" written in.
