So this was fun. Rolling down an icy 4 lane hill about half speed when a truck about 4 or 5 lengths ahead of me does a violent jack knife. He slams into his trailer so hard that it starts to rotate clockwise. I decide to shoot for an escape instead of risking my own jack knife and possibly slamming head first into his equipment. I make it all the way over to the oncoming curb lane but his trailer just kept coming for me. I lose my mirror then spot light, but it was the corner of the trailer that caught onto his and peeled away like a sardine can.
I seen buddy's drives kick out a little bit and he must have panicked and hit his brakes hard to cause a jack knife that violent. Oh well. We both walked away without a scratch. I lost a load and some equipment that's going to cost me a ton in deductibles, but shit, it's only money. I really did enjoy that $10,000 frozen honeydew though. Very sweet. Buddy is having a rough go of it though. The next day he was booting around in his tractor sans trailer, and spun out in front of the scale and ended up in the ditch. I'm thinking maybe the winter mountains are not his thing.
Now I'm chillin in Calgary waiting for Peterbilt to open so I can grab a new mirror and get back to work.
So... silver linings;
1) Still kick'n... bonus
2) Had a really sweet semi frozen honeydew
3) Tractor still good to go
4) Spent a little time with a crazy cute truck stop waitress named Brianna
5) Forced into a financial position to move on from the house in the city and concentrate on the farm
6) Met a wrecker dude with 8 kids of his own and another 6 step kids with the wifey...whoa. Cool dude.
7) Got to appreciate all the support from fellow drivers, family and friends.
I had a few people ask me how I could still be in such a good mood and be smiling and joking around after a situation like this. It's basic really. No one got hurt and it's just money. Money only means something if you either stop working, or constantly reach for things beyond your means. I ended up selling my house for a lot less than I wanted a lot sooner than I wanted. But I still have the hobby farm and the kids are no longer living in the house anyways. When they come back in a couple years, I'll get another one. Maybe it won't be as nice as the house I just sold maybe it'll be a bit better. Who cares. That shits just a box to keep the cold out. It's what happens in the box that matters.
