It's a rather interesting theme as how the human mind handles friendships.
As a secondary character once put in a series called House: (what misanthrope wouldn't love house?)
"The ones you want around yourself when you are dying, ain't the same ones you want when you are alive".
Boy, how do I usually feel exactly on the other end of than statement..
I mean, there is a basic, yet stupid, allmost mathematical line to be drawn here:
1. You know someone.
2. You became friends with that someone.
3. When that someone faces a crisis you can:
a. Be just a regular friend, who gets shunned away during the crisis. Do nothing towards that. and then, when the crisis is over, you are recognised as "not a true friend", but over a short period of time, everything gets back into place, and it's just like nothing ever happened.
b. Be that close friend who endures everything, who forfeits your personal life in favor of the freaking out friend. and then, when the crisis is over, you get the status of "true friend", but over a short period of time, you start to get "gently shunned away" only to be called that close to your friend again when it gets into a new crisis.
I sooooo love those ironically sadistic traits of the human mind..
