SO....apparently, some of the superiors at work put in for a raise for me....too bad, as we found out, that the company doesnt DO raises anymore except for the annual pay increase.
In lieu, I have been given the opportunity to reap the most precious reward-OVERTIME. They dont like overtime. I and another coworker have been asked to work extra, and the changes were left up to us.....
Hello, 70 hours a week of manual labor. But hey-if I can keep this up and manage to pull 70 hours exactly (unlikely, it'll probably end up being 60), that's an extra grand-plus in my pocket per month. Supposedly this will only last a few months....so I'm going to reap it while I can.
With that in mind, let us remember the good times (and the bad!) and look back at the work history of the Kevin. Not counting apprentice work under Tim.
Ah, the first "real" and "legal" job. Landscaping. The crazy 16 year old with the chainsaw. What did they call me? Wild man? Mad man? Eitherway. Good times, they initially didn't want to hire me because they didn't think I could cut it. Up at 4am, ride the bike to be there by 5, chainsawing and hedgetrimming and weed eatin until the sun was setting. Summertime Florida heat and humidity, soaking all my clothes and causing every last blade of grass to adhere to me. Did this for a month or so before I had to return to school. Paid cash, pretty sweet at the time.
Temp job at B. Dalton Bookstores....the mall location closed down, and a good friend was the manager. Temp job for Darren and I? SWEET. The first day was the best:the books needed to be sent back for credit. However, there were two kinds of sendbacks:product, and cover. If it was a "product return", the whole thing needed to be sent bad....however, if it was a "cover return", JUST THE FRONT COVER needed to be returned and it didnt matter what happened to the rest of it. Thankfully, most of the books were cover returns and the car trunk was filled twice. There was much laughter in that job. best parts, though, were the lunch breaks. Until the first paycheck came in, Darren and I needed some way to feed ourselves....hello, mall water fountains with your bounties of change. We eventually got confident enough to PICK OUT what change we wanted-quarters only, bitches! Note, I dont feel badly about this:the signs said it went to a children's cancer foundation, but it was a well known fact that it went instead to the mall owner's pockets. So FUCK HIM and his exploitations-he deserved to be ripped. We'd take the money and get lunch...then go sit in front of Victoria's Secret and harass the customers. "You're not REALLY going to wear that, are you?!" "That was NOT your color." etc. It was a sweet few weeks.
Grocery store.....several months there, as the faithful buggy pusher. Not much to say about that.
2 years at Hollywood Video, rising from peon to manager back down to midlevel management, then back up....then out. I miss that job, but the company tried to screw me over....so I had to screw them back. I enjoyed the job and the coworkers-Jay and I made it a point to only hire females age 16-24. Had some good times.
NAPA parts driver....couple weeks, then I had a case of a failed parking brake. Scared the shit out of me to roll backwards, downhill, into traffic. Goodbye, NAPA!
I miss working at the convienance store, too. Good pay, and all the food/booze I could eat/drink. That place was my playground!
Somehow, I expected this entry to be more humorful...I just dont have time/space for all the hilarious stories. *le sigh*
