Anyone in their right mind would never let you inside
Tonight I'm going to go see Shihad. And to the disgust of quite a log of SGAU folk, I'm sure, am dressed in the typical attire of a particular social clique that seems to be the subject of a lot of antagonism of late. Which sucks because.. I'm still the same person as I always was, and I always dressed this way and listened to those bands. And you liked me before...
Anyway.
At 4am on Thursday morning I got a little excited, listening to the quality of my own music production skills and realising that it was of a pretty high standard - enough to warrant releasing an EP.
I have two songs recorded from about 2002 recorded at Tunesville Studios in Townsville and produced/mixed by Bjarne Ohlin, and another done a few months ago at the same studio with the same man. And I have two songs, one of which is on local radio, which I've produced and mixed myself. That's 5 songs. That's an EP. If only I had the money to have them mastered, and to house them in some professional looking packaging, I thought.
Then it hit me..
Split EP! I need to find one of my friends' bands who would be interested in doing a similar thing, which would half the costs and potentially double our fanbase, as those who were to buy the disc because they know/like the other band, would get a listen of us as well.
As far as mastering goes.. I'm going to try my hand at it. It wont be awesome, but here's the thing.. I'm unsigned, I'm on a budget, and I really just want something out there for my friends to listen to and to use as promo for getting support gigs. In a few months I'll record an album and, when I have the money, will have it properly mastered and such. This might be made even easier by a new, local, record company, who's clients include.. in my opinion, lesser bands. I hope to be playing proper gigs regularly by the end of the year.
And next month I will be being paid $150 for a days work as a session drummer for use on an educational CD aimed at miners in Western Queensland. I love my friends hooking me up.
Our cover musicians project is coming along rather swimmingly. Two weeks ago we committed to learning a song a day, but since we already know a few, including ones we used to play in high school as a full band - acoustified! - we are ahead of schedule. Hopefully in 2-3 weeks we can look for gigs as a duo. And hopefully there is a niche market for the songs we want to play because, well, let's face it, most acoustic solo artists/duo's play pretty much the same songs as everyone else. Our current repetoire includes Tool, RHCP, 30STM, Radiohead, Deftones, Blind Melon, Foo Fighters, Incubus, P!atD and Eskimo Joe, with the next round of songs being by NOFX, Powderfinger, TBS, The Cure and Fallout Boy.
I'd like to say things are looking up. And I guess in some areas they are. Let's see how tonight goes.
And to those friends of mine going through relationship/love dramas, I offer my continued love and support. I will always be there.. regardless of the time of day.
Let's take these lines, and draw ourselves out of here.

Geminus Loco are doing the EP thing as well, it's fucking expensive
Fuck I love Shihad, they've done it tough since returning in shame from the USA and they always play so hard live. Lucky you.
