State: Slightly tipsy. Also Queensland, depending on which definition you're going by.
Food of choice: McDonalds double cheese and bacon burger (which is all gone.. now what? ohhh yeah leftover Red Rooster!).
Today was a good good day. I awoke knowing that there was money in the bank and that there were things to be done. I still did my usual wake up at midday, fool myself into thinking that moving to the couch is a step in the right direction but then fall asleep on the couch, and then wake up around 2 ritual.
Banks and post offices close at 4. I had to go see Todd at 4:30 to borrow his copy of Pro Tools to work with for a school assignment (and also make myself learned in Pro Tools because after all, it's industry standard). I was off to get lunch at about 2:30 when I realised that I had festival applications to get in today. Gah! I filled out forms, printed them in yellow because it's the only colour left in any printer in the house, and burned a demo CD. I emailed the entire thing to the people also because I have no tangible photos to send, only computer ones, and they will not print so good in yellow ink.
I sent my things. Went to the bank. Sent my ball money to Steven. Made an appointment for the much anticipated loan application. Bought Red Rooster. Got Pro Tools. Went home. Skipped class. Waited for friends to arrive for band practice instead (Liam is home from Mackay for a few days - yay to that). Sounded like absolute crap in practice! Hopes were not high.
So we went to Molly Malones. We were first to play, and as we got there late, we were only waiting 10 minutes before we had to go up. We rocked the motherfucking KASBAH. Liam did well on bass considering he lives in a different city and had an hour practice before hand to get the gist of the songs. Well, to be fair to this statement, he IS part of the foundation of our band (even though he doesn't live here anymore) and did have a hand in writing most of our songs, despite not being the bass player.
Prior to going on I spoke to the house band drummer about breaking drum sticks, because the last time we played I broke the nylon tip off one of them, which isn't that drastic. He said that I was not to worry about it because he claims drum sticks on tax anyway. Oh how it would be to claim broken drum sticks on tax.. So, I played without worry, and broke 2. 2! Todd broke 2 strings on a borrowed guitar in our first song. Those guys must hate us.
We got a half decent reception for once. We did play well though. I did not expect what we got, because a lot of the crowd still had their reflective council uniforms on as if they'd just come from work for a beer and wanted to hear some Metallica covers. What they got was pure original music genius. We trialled the beginnings of a new song, entitled "Red Star/Blue Star". It's pretty, and has the potential to be epic. We had this other epic song which had a working title of "Frodo" (because it reminded us of an epic Lord of the Rings type journey) that we can no longer play due to 40% of our band living in seperate cities. This has the potential to rival Frodo. Todd has arranged strings for the song which sound awesome. If we have gigs where we can play full sets, with all of our own gear, with our own segues from song to song, and additional backing tracks (electronic drum beats and string arrangements), this song will kick some proverbial ass.
Apparently the house band's drummer was quoted as saying "he's pretty fast" in response to hearing me play. Meh. I'm not fast. I'm not concerned about playing fast. I just want to play good. I just want to play right. I got to sing, and I sung half decently, and had no bad reports, even though for the last few days I've been coughing up God knows what, and have had a horse voice. I had my time to shine, playing an octave above Nai in Warfare, and getting my scream on in Solitary Embrace. I wish we got to play Train Ride, because I do some pretty awesome screamy effects in that song.
Rebecca came to watch. It's nice to have a friend or two in support, especially at these types of things when people are mainly there to hear covers. She is mad that I left so early (it's past fucking midnight and people have JOBS you know!). I'm trying to get her (via sms) to ask a bass player to jam with us. It would be good. He's sort of okay.. He has played in many-a-band around town, one of which was signed to an independant label.
Well this is all for now I think.
