It's almost disturbing how great this week has been. Two days off, then one day of work followed by an awesome night at the Cubs' game (yes, I enjoyed a Cubs' game...I almost feel ashamed) then a day off and a tour with my co-workers of a place called the CenterOnHalsted, which is a LGBT not for profit community center which turns no one away, even if they're not LGBT. I'm amazed that a great place like this is in the heart of the city and I've never heard of it. Natasha, our tour guide, pointed out how they're open to everyone and very inclusive, which is great to hear from most not for profit orgs. Mine is a great one to work for, too, but you know the members we have are old school and probably not very open to peoples of differing sexual orientations or backgrounds.
My co-worker Anita mentioned all they need is a health club and they have a perfect community center, which is about right. I was also glad to hear they work with youth from the South Side with soft skills like letter writing and interviewing. It's also HUGE...from their upper deck you can see the entire skyline.
Then we had lunch at a pizza place called Michael's and I went home and passed out. All by 2pm!
And Friday, I get my raise AND my bonus (which was a grand, but of course gets eaten up a bit by taxes that I'll get back later) and get to pay for part of our first months' rent at the new place. Next week we pay the full amount and maybe start moving a few things in once we get the keys.
And Dark Knight next week!
Awesomeness!

It's a damn shame the the city, state and federal government doesn't do more for people.
