I think that if a close job that pays much better and doesn't require me to rely _too_ much on the CTA comes up, that I'm gone. There's not really anywhere for me to go with this job and my department may not even exist in two years.
I say this because one of my (more annoying) co-workers is leaving and not only do I know I won't be offered his job, but I'm not even qualified. I have no degree and no international experience.
And it's sobering. There are things on my plate for 2008 that might help, but by then that job will be filled.
I like my co-workers, my job is okay...I just know there's no future in it, and when you're pushing 39, that's sort of important. I've seen the woman who has been in my exact same job for 17 years, and she's like the walking dead.
I'll pass.
