We moved away from London about two and a half years ago and into a small village central to 3 American Air Force bases. As such, most of my friends now are American and I have noticed something.
Americans are selfish people!
I am not Anti-American like many people these days. I have even endured insults and nasty remarks from members here due to my support of America and it's people. Please, read on before becoming offended.
I recently went to the Commissary on one of the bases with a good friend of mine. It's where all the American Military personnel go to get thier groceries. This is where my theory began to form. You guys invent different food items and of course release them worldwide but... you keep all the best stuff for yourselves.
Now, no theory is complete without some evidence. Behold:
Dorito's. England - Cool Original, Chilli Heatwave, Hint Of Lime , Lightly Salted and (if you can find them, which I never have) Sizzling BBQ. America - Toasted Corn, Spicy Nacho, Ranchero, Black pepper Jack, Nacho Cheese, Taco, Salsa, Salsa Verde, Cool Rancho, Blazin' Buffalo & Ranch and (my personal favourite) Fiery Habanero.
Dips. England - Salsa (hot & mild), Sour Cream. America - Salsa, Sour Cream, Spinach, Ranch, Salsa & Cheese and Monterey Jack Cheese.
Oreos. England - Launch in 2008 with one flavour. America - Regular, Double Chocolate, Mint 'N' Creme, Golden,Chocolate Covered, Chocolate Covered Mint, White Fudge Covered, Chocolate Fudge Covered.
I can go on like this for a long time but I doubt anyone would be reading it. Go on my American Friends, deny it!
In other, non-food related news.
I was due to go to the "Ink & Iron" show, in Birmingham, in April and we were really excited about it. We were gonna stay the weekend and Kirstie was gonna get some more of her backpiece done whilst we were there. It's been cancelled though. They had some threats of violence against the event and anyone who attends. Who the fuck threatens violence against a tattoo/ car/ metal convention? It was hardly the next meeting of the UN.
I swear Kirstie thinks sometimes that I have forgotten what happened. I understand that, for her, it is something that she doesn't think about on a regular basis but for me... it's still pretty raw. It doesn't get spoken about much anymore but on the odd occassion when she does something to remind me of that time or it's getting on top of me again - she seems shocked. She doesn't understand that it's never really gone away for me like it did for her. This is not a sign that things are bad between us because things are brilliant, I just wish she wouldn't look so hurt that I'm still hurt by it.
Finally, I know that I keep on about it but I really need your sponsorship. For any new friends who don't know - check a couple of blogs back but I'm going to the rainforest for a week for charity.
I know that money's tight but you don't need to pledge much at all. Any small amount would mean so much to me. Please visit our sponsorship site to give support.
Stay Lucky.
