People can be so stupid.
Yesterday, at work, a woman calls in and complains that we've been charging her every month.
"Yes ma'am, you have an active account."
But she says she never used the DSL service, and we've been charging her for no reason!
"Did you cancel the account?"
"Well, I never used it! I sent back all that equipment you sent me."
"Ma'am, if you never cancelled the account, that's why you're being charged." Idiot. "I can transfer you to our retention dept. to cancel."
"Well, I want you to stop charging me! You've been charging me for no reason for eight months!"
And for eight months you never called us to ask why? WTF? "Ma'am this is tech support. I have no control over your bill. I can transfer you to our retention dept. to cancel."
" [continued ranting] "
"Is there anything else I can help you with?"
[confused silence]
"I have no control over your bill, ma'am. You can speak with retention to cancel the service."
"Oh... okay."
[transfers the call, mumbles incoherently]
I'll bet she got them to credit her account, too -- because Dog knows, if someone is absent-minded enough not to cancel their account, it's our responsibility to read her mind and stop billing her.
