hmmm. quick update, and then i need to start putting myself together. heh. here's my weekend, more or less.
1. going to see Antarctica vs. the World tonight at the Dixie.
2. worked last night at Snake's. it was pretty busy early, but everyone was cool/friendly/decidedly non-assholish. a lot of my friends came by, including JasonDemon, but unfortunately i was too busy bartending to hang out much. i made a bunch of cash, but the night degraded in quality quite rapidly at 4:30, when the coke-head brigade began showing up. but my money was right on, so i got to leave almost immediately after closing up, and went out to eat with Mike and Robin, and had a delightful cheese omelet, and some grits. that's right, Jason, grits. they do have a taste, goddamnit!
3. went to Gwar on Thursday night, with my friend Chris. a bunch of my other friends were there, too, again including JasonDemon. that was a lot of fun. i'll post a picture of my stained t-shirt when i upload the next batch of photos.
after Gwar we all went to Snake's. Robin was behind the bar and there were five or six random naked dudes drinking at the end of the bar. yeah. we stayed at the other end. not that nakedness in Snakes suprises or shocks me, but i don't necessariy want to sit elbow to elbow with 'em, either.
then we went down to the Quarter and hung out mostly at One-Eyed Jack's. it was kind of lame and slow. the creepy guy who bit me at breakfast that one time showed up and tried to talk to me, but Mike (my buddy and the door-guy at the Snakes, who had been the one to throw creepy, biting guy out of the bar for the aforementioned reason) intercepted and told him it would probably be best if he just turned around and walked out of the club. which he quickly did. heh. nothing like hanging out with large, protective men, eh?
5. oh, and i applied for a job at an art store on Thurday morning. wish me luck and rattle the bones on my account. i need to be gainfully (if not productively) employed. and 40% off art supplies in addition to a paycheck... now that would be a fucking godsend, for real.
that's about it. a pretty good weekend, all in all. i'll try to take my camera to the AvW show, and post pictures. think i'm going to make it an early night, though. i've been out and about way more this weekend than i have in the previous month, probably. and i don't want to push my luck. but it's better than sitting in the house by myself.
love, all.

My experience in food and beverage sevice sounds similar to yours. Quietly resent the coke-heads and assholes, but give 'em some slack if the green matches the grunt.
Grits do have taste. Good taste, at that. I have a family that's largely from the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida, so I was weened on them. This far north, though, noses go up as soon as the g-word is mentioned. funny thing is that, when I was writing menus for resorts and B&Bs in Vt, I served grits daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Call them 'soft polenta' and, suddenly, mouths water. Yeah, there's a big difference, but those rubes never seemed to find it.
Good luck with the art gig. Discounted supplies are never to be taken lightly.
