My week has been interesting. I've been working a bunch at a Boeing property here in Seattle. It is semi-reminisant of working in the NYC at MTA bus depots, where I did environmental remediations. Normally in my position at my company I do mostly data analysis but since I've had little to no work in my speciality they decided to give me some field work. We've been out sampling catch basins, definitely not glamorous but I'm happy to have something to do. The best part about it really has been working around the airplanes. The facility I've been working at acts as a staging area for the planes Boeing builds before they go out to the customers. Some of the planes, mostly 737 or 787 have been painted for the purchaser but some haven't and are just bare, which is kind of neat. We've been working so close to these jets it is pretty cool! Today was the closet we have gotten, working directly under the wings and engines at some points. By far the coolest was getting to work under one of these:
Totally fucking cool! We're not allowed to take pictures otherwise trust me that this blog would have pictures to show just how cool these things are!
Lately I've been serious entertaining buying a new car. In no way shape or form do I need a car, but I certainly want one. The weekend of my birthday Basketcase went out for sushi with me, for which she rocks! On our way home from the restaurant it was raining pretty heavily and on route we took I had to drive up these ridiculous Seattle hills, on which were several stop lights. At 3 successive stop lights this woman was tailgating me.. which is not a good idea in Seattle, given the steep hills and the number of manual cars out there. If I haven't mentioned already my current car is a manual. So at the 3rd of these 3 lights I go to accelerate only my tires spin and the car stalls.. and before I can react the car rolls right back into this fucking woman. Luckily no damage was done, but I can't tell you how many times my car has stalled on one of these hills and frankly I'm sick of it. I've never been particularly good at driving stick, but enough is enough.
Anyway I'm thinking about buying a black 2010 Honda Fit! My work deals with a local Honda dealership pretty frequently and I should be able to get a good interest rate on a car as a result.
At this point it is all about want over need, but there are some practical things to consider. My current car, a 2005 Hyundai Elentra (blah) is in sort of rough shape aesthetically. My first day in my apartment I hit a support beam in my garage, the steering wheel rubber is dried out and is falling apart along with other scrapes here and there I generally don't think I could get what it is worth on kelly blue book. Especially given that nobody out here wants to touch an east coast car, due to the rust our cars accumulate due to exposure to road salt. The dealership is going to offer me $3000 for my car, which I think is more than fair. If i wait much longer I don't think I'll get that much. Also the dealership is offering to throw in a bunch of extra accessories.
Not sure what I'm going to do, only time will tell I suppose, but isn't it just sexy?
Cats arrive SATURDAY, weeeeeeeee.
This came in the mail for them today, woot!
