So, I know it's a bit late but that's what happens when you have only a bit of free time. This is pretty much the first time I've actually decided to get completely into snowboarding, also living closer to a few mountains helps. Instead of being a full days drive from the rockies, it's now a 3 hour drive to Vermont (I know, I know, east coast... but a guy's gotta be willing to make sacrifices). So Friday, first run of the season, and also first time on my new board.
Now I found a terrain park that was about 30 mins away, so I figured that would be the spot to knock off the dust take a few runs, make sure my game was still straight. So I make a couple runs, start to get it back. Then I see some guys taking a small jump and going into a boardslide. No problem, I was taking jumps at the end of last season, sure it's going to be the first time I tried a boardslide but hey... shouldn't be a problem, keep my weight on the back and I should be good.
WRONG!!
I start going down, and I thought "Hmm, picking up a bit of speed... eh, I should be alright". So I take the jump, and I'm sailing in the air, and all of a sudden I feel my nose start dropping, and my weight moving forward. Just then, the nose of my board hit the tabletop and then soon after my face smacked the tabletop. After I skidded a few feet, I was a bit rattled, and took a few minutes to evaluate... ok, bad plan.
After that I decided that I should hold off on the board slide, to tell the truth I thought my board was crap, and wasn't feeling the fake snow. After that I wanted to see if I could get back into it with a few more runs. Total all in all, was one fucked up face, one bruised knee from an ice patch from the fake snow (btw, fake snow sucks), and a bruised ass from another ice patch.
Saturday, didn't make it out but Sunday a friend of mine wanted to go to Ludlow, VT. and do some runs out there. Still a little sore from Friday I dragged my bruised ass out there. Once we got there I took a few runs and automatically found my groove. I just hit the spot and instantly loved my board, I felt all it's unique tweaks and got used to it. I was unstoppable, I couldn't go fast enough. My man Zach soon called me crazy, but it was cool. I was just having fun. As I was taking this one run, I was bombing down it and spotted this lip off to the side that I wanted to hit. Lined up perfect for it, was in my crouch, hit the lip, extended, and started flying. While I was in the air, I saw my board and not even thinking about it, grabbed it, and pulled off an indy. Landed it, stopped, looked around, nobody there. Of course, I land my first trick, and no one is around to see it. Met Zack at the bottom, told him I landed my first trick, his response was "For Real?". He wanted to go after that, so we packed it up and headed home.
So it was a decent weekend. Had an alright first day, Sunday, even better. So I'm thinking it's going to be a decent season of Snowboarding
