I need help. I am on a mission to become an IMAlive volunteer. For those who don't know what IMAlive is, it is an upcoming crisis hotline. It will be the first of its kind in many ways.
One, it will be the first crisis hotline based completely online. I for one have horrible social anxiety, and even in my darkest moments, I couldn't find the courage to pick up the phone. IMAlive will change that by offering crisis intervention online, and I think it's long overdue.
Two, it will be the first crisis hotline to require all of its volunteers to be certified. When people reach out for help, they want the ones helping them to actually care. They want someone who understands their pain and truly wants to help. Again, a program like this is long overdue.
This is where I need help. The volunteer training program costs $250. Some people may be able to afford this without problem, but I unfortunately cannot. I've wanted to be a part of IMAlive since it was still in its concept stages, and I don't want my lack of money to come between me and the opportunity to help people in pain.
For those who can't afford the $250 pricetag, IMAlive has set up a Support-A-Volunteer program to offset or even eliminate the costs of the training. I've set up my page, and I hope it helps me get closer to achieving my goal of becoming a certified volunteer.
As of today, I've raised $25 through this program. If anyone can help me, I'll be eternally grateful. If you're not sure whether you can afford to help or not, think of it this way: if you skip Starbucks today and donate the amount you planned to spend on a drink, you will have made my goal even more achievable. The same goes for any unnecessary, avoidable expenses. Even just a couple dollars goes a long way.
If you want to become a volunteer yourself, I encourage you to create a page of your own. (:
My page is located here. <3
I might even take another cleavage shot [or more ;p] with someone's name on it if s/he mentions that s/he's from SG.
