I just got back from my old hometown from a party held to celebrate the passing of my dad. Well, it was really a celebration of his life. Very little crying, lots of laughter, and so many great stories. My friends practically lived at my house when they were kids, so it was like a high school reunion for me. All my dad's old co-workers at the fire department came and they had lots of stories I hadn't heard before. We had a party at the home I grew up in and me and all my buddies sat and partied in my old room and reminisced about all the parties we had up there as teens. Nothing like getting together with old friends so that we can all remind each other why we will never be able to get elected to a public office. Way to much fun dirt on each other!!
Now the reality slowly sets in as I can no longer look forward to talking to him, getting advice, talking about movies, or receiving anymore cd's or dvd's he would burn for me and my kids. If there is a heaven, he is watching a classic movie in a vintage theater.
Love 'ya dad.
