i rode up the elevator with my department's Nobel laureate today. For another scientist, a Nobel laureate is sorta like an old rock star that you probably don't listen to much, but you respect their work nonetheless. Like Mic Jagger.
Anyway, i see him around once in awhile but i've never had such a good opportunity to talk to him.
I must add that yesterday i took a very maliciously written quantum mechanics midterm, and that this is the subject he got his prize in.
So i say hello and tell him i'm new in the department and all those other politenesses and he does the same. Then i ask him if he ever had trouble learning quantum and he laughs and says, yes. He said that he had massive amounts of trouble and his work became a pursuit to simplify it.
He sorta missed my question. But, the whole thing rocked anyway
