I apologize in advance for being unnecessarily "heavy". I was watching a movie and it made me think about some things. And, being apart of the modern world, I decided to blog about it.
Courtship, the word itself is archaic, as is the act. In the modern world, we divulge in meaningless relationships, one after the other, only to find ourselves disappointed. We enter these relationships with intentions that are uncertain and unclear, at best. We find ourselves trapped in the heat of the moment, enraptured by lust, and taking it all in stride. We speak of love, yet our love for people is inconsistent. In the past, marriages were decided by what each side had to offer: money, familial superiority, nobility, inheritance, and property. Divorce was a scandal and propriety was honored. Yet, they were not entirely happy. Today, we are governed by the freedom to choose and the divorce rate is increasing. As soon as the going gets tough, we get going. We feel no pressing need to put effort into our relationships, because we're allowed to sway our affections to another as if we were choosing outfits or shoes. So, it is safe to assume, that we are not entirely happy either. My question is this. What are we missing? Can two individuals love one another and have that love endure? What is true love?
