has anyone seen Terrence Malick's The New World? i watched it yesterday, expecting another mediocre take on America's Manifest Destiny, but oh how wrong i was - it is exquisite on every level, from David Shire's dream-like score to the ambiguity of the title. i didn't even know it was about Pocahontas; nor had it occurred to me that her romance with Captain John Smith was the first great American love story, regardless of legend versus fact. Colin Farrell, who i usually hate, is actually very subtle for once, and his internal monologue narration is at times unbearably intense. I EVEN FORGIVE HIM FOR ALEXANDER, which is saying a lot.
i was going to post a trailer, but it was the mis-marketing that put me off seeing it in the first place. now i wish i'd bothered to see it in the cinema. don't you hate that? anyway, just watch it.

are you also naked under a pink crushed velvet blanket? or would that be too good to be true?
it was lucky you had a camera at that moment. i can't count the number of times i've found myself in that same predicament wishing i had my camera...
