This entry is kind of sappy. Writing it was mostly for my benefit.
I spent most of today waiting to see my grandma. She went to the doctor today to check on her eye that she had an operation on earlier this week. That was planned before she went into the hospital at the beginning of the month and they were still able to do it. When she went for the appointment, the doctor discovered that macular degeneration had begun in her eye and decided to preform a procedure to halt its progress right then. We had expected to see her around 1pm but she didn't get back to the hospital until 5pm. The day was pretty boring. When she did finally get back though, I got to talk to her a lot. I asked her a lot of questions about her childhood and her family that my mom didn't know the answers to. I learned a lot about her. It was cool. My mom was happy about it too because she's never gotten the information out of her.
My grandma and I have always had a special relationship. Everyone else in the family -- my parents, aunts, uncles, and my brothers -- consider her to be a stand-offish kind of woman. My brothers say all she has ever done is yell at them. To me though, she is a warm, loving woman. Some of my memories of her are of playing cards and taking walks to the bagel shop down the street from her house. When we visited when I was 15, my mom took my brothers to the park and she and I sat in her apartment, talk, and smoked cigarettes. Hehe.
I hope she's ok. It's still kind of up in the air. I mean, she's going to live, but she's still really weak and they don't know if she'll be able to go home and be able to take care of herself. It sucks.
I'm going home tomorrow. My mom and I are going to go see her first thing in the morning and then drive back to DE. It's a 6 1/2 hour drive. I have laundry to do and then I think I'm going to out to dinner with DodRaibeid and two other friends. Relaxing with friends wil be good.
I think I am going to read for a bit and go to sleep. If you haven't read anything by Christopher Moore, check him out. I'm reading Bloodsucking Fiends.

Always good to get to know a family member before it's too late. One thing I regret is not being able to have a beer with my pop. Lesson learned, get to know the ones close to you.
