This week has been pretty shitty. I've been kind of depressed and I'm sick. I've also been fairly oversensitive though thankfully the boy has put up with that well (for the most part). Something cool did happen Wednesday though. One of the kids was leaving the shelter for a foster home and she was really upset about leaving us. In the van on the way home from a trip we took that day, she kept asking me if there was anyway she could stay, promising she would be really good. She finally stopped asking and sat back in her seat. Then all of a sudden she apologized for something she did quite a while ago. I started thinking about her time at the shelter and realized how much she had changed for the better in the time she had been there. She went from being kicked out of class repeatedly and never doing her school work to getting very good grades and never getting in trouble in summer school. She had also become a very sweet, helpful girl. She was a perfect example of why I do what I do. I want to make a difference and I could see it so clearly in her. It was a terrific feeling. It also felt extremely crappy that she was leaving and was so upset, and if I hadn't been in a van with a bunch of other kids I would have cried. I can deal with that though. Point being, sometimes I really love my job.

I'm glad you have those moments at your job. I'm sure the girl is a much better person for having had you in her life. Even if you parted on a sad note. Take care.
