My trip to Vermont was awesome. The trip isn't actually over yet but I'll get to that in a minute. I flew into Boston this past Monday where my darling Kristine met me. We drove back to Vermont talking nonstop. I don't think I realized how much I missed that girl. She's been my best friend for 10 years but she moved away 5 years ago. I like her near me! I got to meet all her VT friends including her new boy. I had a blast. We wandered around Burlington, shopped, saw the movie Match Point (I want my two hours back!), drank, and talked into the wee hours of the morning. It couldn't have been a better trip. Well, maybe if it was longer. I was definitely not ready to leave. Kris drove me back to Boston yesterday where we met my aunt and uncle. I had lunch with them and then went to see my grandmother. It was awesome to see her. She is doing so well. She was very talkative and got out of her chair without any help. That may not seem like much but a few months ago they didn't know if she would be able to walk again after she had a stroke so that was incredibly exciting. After the visit with my grandma, my uncle took me to the airport.
That is where things got really interesting. My flight was initially delayed an hour due to the weather; no big deal. I boarded the plan and was getting settled when a flight attendant got on and started begging someone to give up their seat. I figured, what the hell, I have no where I have to be tomorrow. They gave me a roundtrip ticket for anywhere in the U.S., a $200 voucher for anywhere they fly and put me up in a hotel for the night. I knew there was a possiblility I might not get out today but figured it would be an adventure. I got up this morning and my new flight was in fact canceled but there were still other flights going out. I went back to the airport but eventually all of the flights were canceled. I would have been OK with that but they kicked me out of the terminal and wanted me to hang out in the ticket area for the night. Those seats are not very comfortable so I was less than thrilled and did not feel very safe because there really weren't very many people around. It seems everyone who was already in Boston just didn't bother to show up at the airport and no one else could fly in. I ended up calling a bunch of hotels until I found the cheapest one and am back in a hotel room. This one is neither as nice or free but at least I am comfortable and safe. Plus, I have my computer, a good book, and an interesting story, not to mention, now I get to go visit Ignatia for free! Assuming I get to go home tomorrow, I think this all worked out pretty well!
Update:
I am worried that my 8:30AM flight tomorrow might be canceled so I want to get a later flight and then just hang out in the hotel until I have to check out. I decided to call the airline's 800 number. I have now been on hold for 4 hours and 5 minutes! This is insane!!!
Update #2:
The airport is open again for incoming flights. It looks as though my flight will be good for tomorrow. At 4 hours and 36 minutes I am hanging up the phone. Here's hoping I am flying home 13 hours from now.
