Hello!
I used to be just "Howdy" here.
But something happened with my credit card and I had to create a new profile.
Grrrrrrrrrr
Now I have to find all my old friends and add them again!
What a fucking pain in the ass.
And I lost all my amazing testimonials too!
Edited to add
But it's great re-connecting with old friends, and making some new ones too!
In fact it's been a good weekend. I cut loose a little on Friday night. First, I found a cinema in DC that primarily supports foreign and indie work. So I think I will be getting to know E Street Cinema better. I saw Let the Right One In and I highly recommend it if you like unusual movies. It's about a Swedish boy (English subtitles) who gets bullied at school, and tries to make friends with the strange girl who moves in next door. She's not like other kids. In fact, she's a vampire. But this is not your typical teen slasher horror film. It is weird but also more engrossing than gross. But then, I like dark Nordic films anyway.
After that I was starving, but I also ran into a problem. I was in the neighborhood of the hockey stadium and the game had just ended. So there were thousands of people out in the streets (and in line at all the restaurants!). Then I realized that getting into the subway would be a nightmare, and even getting a taxi would be hard. After being turned away at a few places (45 min to a hour wait for a table) I got lucky. McCormick & Schmicks was a bit pricier than I was planning for, but they could get me in within 15-20 min so I said "ok." The service was terrible - the waiter took forever to take my order, then brought the wrong wine. But the food was very good. Oyster sampler, followed by steak. That put me in a better mood.
Then I was ready for some music. So I headed to my favorite Blues Bar - Madam's Organ. I've been there a couple of times and it was always the same band playing. They're good, but I was happy to see a different act this time. Chris Polk played a variety of tunes from Motown to some of their own stuff. Very energetic. At one point there were women dancing on the bar. In fact, my waitress joined them after I suggested it. (Yes, she got a good tip at the end of the night ) It was after 2am when I left, and after 3 when I got home - the subway runs very late on weekends here.
And yesterday, my new sofa got delivered! Unfortunately the coffee table was scratched, so they have to send me a replacement. But I can finally have a choice between napping in my recliner while watching football, or napping on my leather sofa. I'll post a pic here once the table comes too. If I remember
