Ha! Surprise. I'm gonna compose a stealth update late on a Friday night - when you are all out having fun. Then you can wake up and comment with a hangover.
What's Howdy been up to lately? Mostly I was on vacation in the lovely state of Wisconsin, where cows munch grass and their milk turns into cheese. Nature is great (and I love cheese).
But I didn't fly there to watch the cows chewing cud. I went to visit my brother and his family, including my nephew (who just turned 8) and my niece who will be 7 in the fall. Mom was there too, to look at condos because she's thinking of moving there from Florida to be closer to her (younger) son and her grandkids.
Vacation consisted of many fun things, including watching soccer practice, taking the kids to the bar for Friday night fish fry, watching my brother mow the lawn, watching the kids and their friends for a few hours while the parents ran errands, and looking for ants. What? Why? Because I got my nephew an ant farm for his birthday. I'm not gonna spoil him with game boy and shit like that. Grandma can.
But the sad thing is, we needed about 20 big ants, and could only find one. We tried the local pet stores, without luck. So we had to use the ant ordering form (included). Who'd have thought you can't find decent ants in suburban Wisconsin?
Another activity was grilling steaks on the deck, while sucking down beer. And I also learned a lot about the toys and things that interest first-graders. My niece was completely engrossed by a substance called "Flarp" noise putty. It resembles Playdoh or Silly Putty, but feels a bit more slimy. And it's utility is that when you force it back into the plastic container, it makes farty sounds. Seriously, this is hours of entertainment for girls and boys. They even bought me some (less than $1).

We also went to see the Madison Mallards play baseball. They are a team of college baseball players that play a bunch of interleague games over the summer to keep sharp and work on their skills (I guess). They can't get paid, obviously, but it was a lot of fun - and tickets were like $6 for great seats.

So that's what I did on my vacation. Since I've been back, I have bought some new shoes.
And Thursday night I bought Missy's SG book and some flamenco guitar music, and then hung out at the local Philly jazz club Zanzibar Blue for Latin Jazz Night (featuring Mambo Machine). Very enjoyable. Ok, far too much about me. What have you all been up to?
