So, I woke up totally late today. Not like late in the sense of absolute time, but I just woke up much later than I wanted. Now, on days that I go to the garage, I don't shower in the morning. I've gotten over the stigma of looking like crap with my hair all disheveled--because I'll just have to take one when I get home anyway. And it's not like the other mechanics are gonna make fun of me for being dirty.
My car is running now. So, after all the shit that we went through--changing the starter, transmission, battery, et al, the problem wasn't solved. So, we just installed a starter switch. Man, I feel like a race-car driver... NOT. The transmission we put in is one out of a '95ish Jetta GL. It's a transmission for little grocery getters. I can break the speed limit in second gear--handily. I can tear up West Union Rd in third and still have another 700 rpm to go. Oh well--it'll work for primary transport for the next couple months.
By the time everything was said and done, and I test drove it and got home, it was 3:00, and I had to be in deep NW Portland by 4. I took a superfast shower, drove the car back, swapped it out for my reliable Corolla, and headed off to NW Portland. I was at the I-405/US-30 interchange when it 4:00, but I realized that the clock was fast. I got there at 4:02, so I had to wait for the guy to come back at 5:00.
In the meantime, I got a call from a company to which I submitted my resum. She set up a "interview." I put it in quotes, because I don't know how much of an actual interview it'll be. She wants to know if I'll be a good fit for them, and if they'll be a good fit for me. I hate to be optimistic, because I do that way too often, and then just don't get anything. But, I really want this job. It's in the Pearl District, which means it's close to the MAX, which means I can move out and live in Portland and not have to drive to work. It's also in the line of work that I want to do--architecture-engineering. I'm really excited to see what I can do there. I think that'll start me on the right track. I'll get a job, an apartment or house (I'm leaning towards house, or at least an apartment with a garage). I know Venice and a whole bunch of people will hate me for it, but I don't really know if that counts; I'm gonna get a Scion xB, unless something else presents itself soon. It's a pretty good grocery getting, people moving, full-mattress holding, JDM, bass-gear hauling van. I'll still keep the GTi, for weekends and tinkering, but I need something with a warranty and not as abrasive for daily driving. Ironically, I won't be commuting to work by road.
I can't wait to have a routine--lunch with co-workers, the morning route, walking around Portland after I get off in my pared-down work outfit, looking like I belong there.
Mmm....
----------------------NEWS FLASH------------------------
So, Volkswagen might have my repeat business, Venice et al might be saved. Apparently the new GTi is coming out in February. That means that I might have a chance in hell with my current car lasting until then. Who knows, though. So, in that case... do I get another car for the meantime? Like a old beater or something.. or do I just hope and pray for Claire to make it that long.
We'll see soon.

I did get a job though if not one that will make my career skyrocket immediatly. I'm going to be a petsitting companie's office manager and dog walker. It sounds rad so far and maybe on my resume I'll have some experience.
Portland sounds fun...I want to go there someday.
