A couple of weeks ago, I took part in a small poker festival at my local casino in London.
I usually go there to play cash poker, as there are no time restrictions. With cash poker you can play for as little or as long as you like.
Tournaments are different. You have a fixed cost but you play until either you are knocked out or you win all the chips. Winning a poker tournament is an amazing feeling & gives you a great buzz.
The festival took place from Wednesday 12th to Sunday 16th of February. The weekday games usually started around 6pm, so I could go straight after work. Weekend games started around midday. I played 3 tournaments from Wed - Sat with no success 😔 always starting off well, but losing late on when it mattered.
On Sunday was a tournament I was really keen to play. It was called HETROS which involves 6 different poker games in one tournament! I feel very comfortable playing mixed games and believe I have an edge over players who just play No Limit Holdem or Omaha games.
The games are:
Limit Holdem
Limit Omaha hi/lo
Limit Razz
Limit Stud
Limit Stud hi/lo
Limit 2-7 Triple Draw
2-7 triple draw is my favourite poker game.
We started at 1pm & after a slow start I slowly began to build a decent stack of chips. Around 11.00 pm we were down to the the final 7 players. I had above average chips but there were 3 players with more chips than me. Only the top 5 would be paid out with cash prizes.
By 1/4 past midnight this happened
Yes, I had all the chips, a gold medal & £1,410 of prize money (entry cost was £140).
This was a great end to the week for me.
I have decided to use my winnings for a trip to Las Vegas in June to play in a 2-7 poker tournament. Wish me luck!
