My experience from hell this week:

I went in to Office Depot yesterday to get new business cards printed (I know, better printers out there, but they're convenient and cheap). After finding out that their system couldn't deal with the way the cards were formatted, I was prepared to go on my way. Then the girl working the counter handed my flash drive back to...

Get a back up stick ASAP.
Surpriseing what can happen when corporate gets
on someones butt. To bad there isn't that leverage with BP.
nikonphoto80:
i think for business cards office depot would be fine.

Wow that is horrible, I can see how you wouldnt want to go back there, glad the corporate office got on there case and got stuff done for you.

Couple of new chainmaille pics in the portfolio, more to come in the near future. I'm experimenting with GIMP until I can latch onto a copy of Photoshop, and it seems to do everything I want, it's just got a clunky interface.

I've knitted my mail-shirt; nice big rings to work with;
so what you're doing with those tiny things is most
impressive. Keep up the good work.

More and more gigs, with the potential for a 3 day long one in June. Still on the search for a new day job to pay the bills. Also, a new girl in the picture. Overall life is good.

Now I just need to figure out my finances...

nikonphoto80:
Congratulations, on having a new girl and getting all the gigs, where did you meet the new girl?
horriblesanity:
ferkix: sadly it's more about figuring out how to pay off what I've spent in the past.

nikon: online, believe it or not.

And the gigs are starting to flow on a regular basis! Had one on Sunday, was asked during a break in shooting about my availability for a 3 day shoot next month! Now if only they came often enough for me to quit the day job...

Check that. The day job is ending this week. I need a new day job or more gigs.
ferkixlll:
Sucks about the day job ending.
Best of luck on improveing the +++cash flow.
nikonphoto80:

wow that is amazing, i'm happy for you, i hope things keep getting better.

good luck with finding a new day job.

Another long day, doing a gig and the day job back to back. But it led to a good networking opportunity, and a lead on another gig, so all is well. Tiring, but well.
ferkixlll:
Got to keep getting yer foot in the door.
Be thankful for a day job in this climate.
nikonphoto80:
Cool, it is always nice to make good networking opportunity and getting another gig from that.

A few new pieces of artwork in the fx album today, though they're old pieces. If anyone knows a decent photographer for things like this in the Chicago area, let me know. Thanks!

It's been a while since my last post on here. Currently in Chicago, doing a little work with a small special fx studio. More info soon, but it's late and it's been a looooooooong day.
ferkixlll:
Hey stranger, good that you've weathered those
tribulations.
Seems to be a fair population of SG's there in Chi-town,
might make the stay more interesting.
Best of luck.
nikonphoto80:
i'm glad you are doing well, sounds like a really fun job.

So, I find myself on the road to Nebraska.

The previously mentioned problems with my school have resulted in me packing all my belongings in a Uhaul and heading out. I wasn't able to arrange a new place to live on such short notice, so most of my things are going into storage, and I'll be crashing at my parents' place for a few weeks...

Im sorry to hear that you couldnt find a new place, I hope you can find one pretty fast.
horriblesanity:
ferkix, you'd be surprised. We spent an afternoon kicking one around, and as long as you don't catch it in the face, it's got enough give to be just fine.

Apparently I'm leaving Pennsylvania.

Allow me to explain.

I'm graduating from the program I'm in this week. I had planned to stay another semester to do a one semester specialized program, but I was having troubles coming up with the money. I stopped by the administration office to talk with them about it. Their response?

"Oh, we decided we weren't going to do that program...

My god that is so rude and so wrong, that was very unprofessional of them. It should be a law that they let you know stuff like that.

horriblesanity:
The strange thing is that they act confused about why they can't get people to commit to enrolling in the program, when they haven't committed to having a program yet.

And despite swearing them off forever on at least two previous occsaions, I once again find myself getting into a long distance relationship. Does it have a chance, or am I just a glutton for punishment?

C
nikonphoto80:
there is always a chance as long as both parties are willing to make it work.

It is more work than if they live closer. But if your both willing to put the work
into it, go for it.

And, several relationships and many months later...

Yeah, I keep a blog.

Life is a bit screwed up right now. More later.

So now an update explaining the long absence...

Somehow I've wound up in a long distance relationship, despite the fact that I swore them off after the last one. It's not too far, only about 3 1/2 hours, but it's still not exactly easy. Right now one of us is making the drive at least every other weekend, and we're on the phone for an...

As well as can be.
Just beat myself into the ground makeing a last
minute round to Reading Pa. And then getting
back to do 2 back to back rounds to Portland Me.
Lucky I live halfway between the plant and Portland.
After 3 weeks of < 40 hrs this 50 eases the pinch.

I'm from Charleroi. You know, the land where they say things like "yunz" and "warsh" instead of "wash." biggrin
