The gauntlet has been dropped. Atari's "Driv3r" has tossed aside it's soda and has asked the "GTA" franchise:

"Are you gonna bark all day...little doggie...or are you gonna bite?"

Please be indulgent enough to pause for a few moments of backstory:

"Grand Theft Auto 2" was being played on a Blockbuster PSOne rental by my good friend and longtime downstairs neighbor. He knocks on the door and says, "Hey Man I got something you would like to check out."

Head downstairs with an extra couple of beers in case I should get lost in a storm, sit down, light a Camel and turn my head to the screen and instant thrill. You all know how sometimes when you see/hear/do/stagger over something that changes everything about you and there's Gilliam cheubs farting about. Yep, that was how I felt.

In late '01 I picked up a copy of OPM at work for something to peruse between mouthfuls of lunch. Saw an ad for PS2 game called "Grand Theft Auto III". Nearly choked on the half a mouth of food I didn't spit out.

FFWD to early '02...after fevered wetdreams and whispered coyly guarded honeyed words of the might and power of the PS2 and, in the parlance of the early 00s, GTA3 was "crunk"...I walked into a shoppe and saw the freshest incarnation of the franchise and bought it and the console and had to go to work and sweat drool and fight back a hard-on.

Got home. Got in and never got out. I'll spare any more backstory before I'll tell of the tale of "GTA:VC"

So...a review about "Driv3r" will arrive after I'm more than 20 hours into gameplay.

zephyra:
You can check the SGTexas boards for information about what we have planned for July 4th. But basically we're going to Baby A's on Riverside for dinner and margaritas, then heading over to Zilker Park for the fireworks show. Also, apparently member Flicka has decided to have a party at her house too...she just hasn't posted definite plans. So, we'll probably head over there at some point on Sunday. I cannot, regretably, promise punch and pie. But we can change that. smile
