I agree - bankruptcy is a last last resort. Im not sure what you owe but bankruptcy won't help if your loans or debt is co-signed. If there is a student loan it's special rules and it may not go away. Also as I'm sure you know your credit is ruined for seven years - no credit cards, no overdraft. Also you will have a really really hard time renting an apartment as landlords check credit scores.

If its credit card debt you might be able to reduce interest rates which might help. Doxie's right - look hard at your expenses and where you can cut back.
