Pain is a weird thing.
When you live with constant pain it becomes part of your daily life, you just get on with things as normal and no ones the wiser as you don't complain about things. However, that's not something that's always good, take me for example, without sounding dramatic, I wake up each day with pain and go to bed each day with pain, all of which stemmed from my accident. to meet me for the first time you would be none the wiser as I have learnt to deal and cope with it and rarely show any outward signs of discomfort, so when I hurt myself anew these days I tend to just shrug it off and continue as normal, for example two days ago I was out surfing, the conditions weren't great in fact they were about as shit as you can get while still being ridable, I was paddling out when some dick lost control of his board causing it to smash straight in to my face, right on my jaw, it hit me with such force that I was seeing stars and it was all I could do to hold on to my board and let the waves wash me back to shore, after shrugging it off and regaining my composure I paddled out again, but feeling a little dizzy and dazed I eventually gave up and walked to my car, that night things were ok I could talk so I knew my jaw wasn't broken, sure it was stiff as hell and it hurt when I ate but I knew nothing was seriously wrong, all I had was a banging headache, so I just took some of my pain killers and settled in for the night. Yesterday my jaw was still stiff and a little tender where the board had hit me but nothing I couldn't deal with so I just took some more pain killers for my persisting head ache and went about my day feeling a little drowsy, now like I said at the beginning of this when you live with pain each and every day you get on with things and don't let it bother you, however my mum noticed that I was taking a lot of pain killers and after telling her what had happened she persuaded me to go to A&E last night to get myself checked out.
Turns out I have a severe concussion lol
So the moral to this story is..... erm..... If you get hit in the face with a surfboard..... Don't forget to go and get yourself checked out
