It boogles my mind how prejudice people can be towards homosexuals. It scares me how prejudice people in our own governement can be towards them. For example in our school newspaper yesterday they ran a story about how the University of Florida's plans of extending domestic partner benefits to same-sex partners might be shot down by state officials. The story isn't available online yet so you're just going to have to trust me that I'm not making this up haha.
Florida House Represenative Dennis Baxley was quoted as saying:
"All I can say is that I'm disappointed that they should move in that direction," he said, adding that he didn't know how a plan could work because homosexuals are too promiscious. Some of these people have 300 partners in their lifetime, and by and large, these are not monogamous relationships,"
Right, because gay people are never monogamous, and heterosexuals are never promiscious. And no heterosexual would ever have 300 partners in their lifetime either.
UF Trustee Al Warrington was quoted as saying:
Its a violation against state law and biblical law, he said. Im not for discrimination, but this tears at the moral fiber of our country.
Right, because it's against the law to not obey the bible. And it's not ok to discriminate, unless it violates your own personal religious moral standards.
However, UF President Bernie Machen pointed out that 8 out of the U.S. News & World Report Top 10 public universities offer benefits to same-sex couples. He also said that that "the extension of same-sex partner benefits at UF is not a matter of if, but a matter of when." I also just learned today that the Gainesvilles city commissioner Craig Lowe is openly gay and spoke at a Gay Pride Student Union event last month.
Anyways, hope everyone has a great weekend. And remember, Jesus loves you no matter what, even if you do like taking it up the ass.
