I've always kinda wondered why, at the end of the movie Braveheart...those two friends of Wallace show up just to watch their beloved friend and leader get tortured to death. How, I've asked myself, could they possibly stand there and WATCH such a thing take place?
Well...today, I did the very same thing.
At 8AM this morning I turned on ESPN and watched the USA women's team get tortured to death...not only by the Brazilian team they were playing, but by the referee as well.
The sick thing is...I already kinda knew what was going to happen before I clicked on the tv set. I HATE to go into a game with reservations that way...having already decided in my heart what the outcome is going to be, but showing up to watch it all play out regardless...
I mean...what SANE person on earth is going to make a substitution of the mother fucking GOALIE at the last minute like that? Why 'fix' something that's not broken? Seriously Mr. Coach Man, what on EARTH were you thinking?! Don't you know that the entire field is controlled by the goalie in the box?
Not that I don't LIKE Briana Scurry...she's certainly one of the best female goalies of all time...and I certainly don't blame HER for all that took place... No, I certainly don't. I blame the US coach who is OBVIOUSLY a fucking moron and will more than likely NEVER work again. IF he's not shot upon his return to the states...
When asked why he'd do such a thing, he cited Scurry's experience against Brazil. Ok...that may be a good point...but it's not good enough to have justified the chaos something like that would cause.
When asked WHEN he'd come up with the idea of substituting like that he cited the game played in JUNE...when Scurry played against Brazil.
Now, you'd THINK that if Mr. Coach Man came up with this idea back in JUNE...that he would have continued to push, practice, and play Scurry equally as much as Hope Solo...that if and when the USA would come up against Brazil...which is nearly a given... Scurry would have been all bright eyed and bushy tailed the way any player would be... Y'know...she'd have been READY. You do NOT put in a player, as a starter, in the second most important game of the tourney (second only to the final)...who hasn't played in weeks? Months? I mean, fuck, I don't even know.
The other thing, before I move on to other more irritating points...is like I said, the goalie, while not the captain on the field...is like, the helm...the control center. The goalie has a unique view of the field from the back...organizing the defense, which organizes the half field, which in turn, organizes the forwards. And it's not to say that the defense, or the rest of the team, for that matter doesn't have the good chemistry with Scurry that they have with Solo...I'm just saying...when you've got a team that is working like a well-oiled machine...who have settled into a comfortable rythym with the goalie they're used to...you DO NOT mess with that. Not to mention the sudden pressure put on Scurry to step up without warning like that. The possible confusion and resentment from EVERY woman on that team? Seriously coach man, just kill yourself.
Ok...moving on...
That aside, there was the own goal scored by Osborne putting us down by one in the first ten minutes? I can't remember, it all was such a mess. I DON'T know WHY Osborne would have chosen to use her HEAD to 'deflect' the ball out of bounds when she's standing behind the near post with no Brazilian players REALLY close enough to her to make the BETTER choice of blocking it and taking it down with her body...and clearing it out with her own feet NOT a good option. Ok...poor choice... Shit happens. And frankly, while an own goal sucks...it DOES happen, and if there's a good time for one to happen, it's early in the game. That way you can still tell yourself you've got a good 85 minutes left to 'fix' this mistake. So, no hard feelings for Osborne.
The truth is...I hate the Brazilian team. They're skilled, for sure. I can't take that away from the likes of Marta, Daniella, etc... They're good and there's no denying that. BUT...if you're that good, ladies...WHY do you INSIST on playing such a dirty game?
There is a time and a place for diving and fouling...and I gotta tell you, it's NOT every chance you get.
Couple a cheating Brazilian team with a referee who REALLY doesn't know her ass from her elbow...doesn't confer with her sideline refs AND the fact that the president of FIFA is a mother fucking Brazilian...and you end up with calls ALWAYS going Brazil's way when they fall down on their own, throw their arms up, or pretend to writhe in pain...at least until the whistle is blown...at which time they jump up as if nothing happened and continue to play.
That's how you end up with at LEAST one hand ball against the Brazilians being 'let go.' Personally, I saw at least three of those from my place on the couch...but hey...that's just me. I no longer play soccer and I certainly don't ref.
And that's DEFINITELY how you get a USA player, red carded off the field...when there was OBVIOUSLY no contact between the players at all...much less a foul of ANY KIND. Even without the slow motion play back it was clear that the Brazilian actually THREW herself INTO Boxx...who already had one unneccesary yellow card on her...leading to the USA having to finish the game a player down.
It's hard to say which was a worse call...because there was also that one in the Brazil vs. Australia game...when Brazil OBVIOUSLY dove in the box, drawing a penalty kick which was the game winner for them against the Aussies who REALLY earned that fucking game. It hurts to see a team work so hard...and get robbed like that. How wonderful it would have been to have witnessed that kind of upset?! Besides, I'd much rather have had the USA team come up against Australia in the semi-finals...instead of Brazil. Not because it would have been some kind of guaranteed win...cuz the Aussies have had an amazing run for the cup...but because it would have been a FAIRER game...and therefore a more ENJOYABLE game to watch.
I'd HAPPILY have lost to Australia...and would have gone on to cheer them in the finals against Germany.
Why do I show up every fucking time just to watch this happen?
Why do I NOT shut the game off when it's obviously over?
Why do I not even just leave the game on but go about my other chores for the day?
Why do I insist on sitting there and watching the entire thing go down?
I don't know. But there it is.
Am I going to wake up at 5 mother fucking AM, like I've been doing for the past three weeks, just to watch another soccer game? This one the third place conselation game the US will play against Norway?
Absolutely...

I like the new CD better than I liked the last one. I don't care so much for Me and My Gang. But Melt is still my favorite. But yeah, it's a good one. I like it. I got it at Wal*Mart and it came with a DVD of some of their videos for the same price as just the CD itself.
How are you today and your boobs... lol
