WELCOME RACE FANS!!!
This past Saturday I pulled my sorry ass out of bed WAY earlier than normal...to do the one thing that always cures what ails me... That's right, I'm talking about drag racing! Only this time, it was for real.
Moldy and I headed to the track for time trials at the crack of 10am...
His car club The Early Riders have an ongoing race schedule against another club, The Road Kings.
He was there to race the club car...and I was honored to be allowed to drive my minivan as a guest driver.
So there I was...just one little girl in a magical flat black minivan...driving against all these awesome classics, hot rods, and customs... Humbling, to say the least. The fans in the stands pointed and laughed...as usual... And so did I...straight into the winners circle bitches! That's right, out of 12 other drivers, I came in second. Second only because I let my final competitor psych me out...damnit. But that will happen once, and only once... Yes, next time I'm bringing home the BIG trophy!
Pictoral evidence...
ME WINNING...
Fastest reaction time off the line for me that day was .087
ME LOSING...watch closely, because this doesn't happen often...
My mistake was being thrown off by my competitors staging lights. Normally, when I compete in anything, I don't look at my competitor at all. When I compete, I'm not racing you, I'm racing me. However...in drag racing...I do, for one second, watch his staging lights...because it lets me know that it's ON...and after that split second I pay no more attention to him...
Unfortunately for me...what he did, and I gotta hand it to him...is he went ahead and deep staged, something he hadn't been doing all day, so I wasn't expecting it. What that does, for those of you know don't know...is it changes the pattern of his staging lights...and for just a split second...I got thrown off...I actually had a THOUGHT on the starting line, which is against my own policy...and with that...I came off the line too fast and fouled myself out.
However...I came off that line a mere three thousandths of a second too fast. -.003
I'm not going to beat myself up (too much) for getting psyched out...THAT will never happen again.
I'd rather pat myself on the back for ALMOST having a perfect light on that last run.
Three thousandths of a second in the other direction...and I would have had a perfect light.
Which, would not only given me first place...but woulda made me a champion.
So, I'll work on that for next time...for now, I'm happy with second. Besides, it's not polite to win it all your first time out...right? Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
