I kind of stole this from Nick Hornby....
People get worried about violent movies and how they affect children. But the worst thing about movies is how they affect our view of love.
I mean, we all want to meet someone who will love us like people do in a movie. And we all think after we tell someone we love them, or care deeply for them, they'll react like in a movie. Maybe they want say anything at that moment, but then they'll come visit us in the pouring rain or meet us at an airport...then they'll kiss us passionately.
Look, I know from experience. The last time I felt strongly for a woman, after I told her how I felt and got let down, I more than halfway expected her to show up on my doorstep a few hours later, telling me how she reconsidered what I had to say. It's all from 30+ years of watching movies, that I thought this was a possibility.
I tell you man, movies are bad. When they don't have us putting these cinematic expecations on our lives, they're impressing unrealistic expecations on us. Hell, I get out of bed every day and think there's a chance I'll meet the real Holly Golightly or the real Amelie. That sort of stuff destroys any realistic versions of love....
Movies are bad, bad, bad.
