Uhhh....I hate insomnia. I'll doze off at 3 a.m. and spring up when that alarm rings at 7:30 a.m.!
Been reading a couple of good books after a period of illiteracy.
One is "Human Punk." by this guy John King (I think that's his name and the book is over by my bed and I'm too bloody lazy to check.) It takes three looks at this punk obsessed guy -- one in 1977, one in 1988 and the other in 2000. It's kind of like "Trainspotting" but the narrator is a little less anti-social and a little more thoughtful than any of the characters in that book/movie. Plus, the book takes place in Slough, that horrible town "The Office" takes place in.
Also bought a copy of Dan Savage's book "Skipping Towards Gomorrah" where he talks about how the pursuit of happiness is all-American, no matter how much it bugs some uptight assholes -- William Bennett, Pat Buchanan and Robert Bork, he's talking to you! It's kind of a hoot.
Going out of town this weekend to visit Alex and me parents. Will also meet Alex's new girlfriend, which should be interesting. Kind of jealous about Alex, who I've always considered a bigger loser than me when it came to women meeting someone cool, but I'm really happy for the guy. No, I am serious. I'm happy for the guy. I can be alone and not get bitter (got friends, music, books, liquor to entertain me and fill up time, plus I'm basically an optimistic person who thinks Miss Right is right around the corner.) but he would get so negative about being by himself.
Lately, in my free time, I've been fantasizing about being a talk-show host. Kind of one of those Walter Mitty-type things I do when I'm in line at the grocery store or driving to an assignment. I've got it all planned. I would do kind of a Conan O'Brian thing and I would get J. Mascis from Dinosaur Jr. or Steve Turner from Mudhoney to be my bandleader. Now, if I could only convince a network to take a chance on me!
