I finally got a new computer, which means you all now get to enjoy my silly ramblings!
I believe that this was a previous homework assignment, which would make this late homework. I think that deserves an hour in detention. Anyone available for some after school ruler wielding?
But, I digress.
I love Halloween. I actually hate Christmas (gasp!). I know, everyone looks at me like I just burned their cherished childhood teddy when I say that. I love Halloween because I love getting to be someone else. Getting to be someone or something I admire, I want to be like, maybe I'm afraid off. Over the last couple, years I branched out from the store bought costumes (don't fret, I still have a naughty nurse costume stuffed somewhere in my drawer of bad decisions) and started making my own.
I enjoy mixing the conventionally "pretty" with things that normally aren't considered as such. A couple years ago, I was trying to find the end of the internet at work, and stumbled upon a picture of a girl with a gorgeously painted face-- it was as a colorful skull, like something you would see for Dia de los Muertos. I know this isn't a "Halloween" holiday, but I just thought it was so striking I wanted to re-create it. I love the idea behind the Day of the Dead itself. Honoring those who has past, celebrating their lives.
So, I decided to try my hand at painting my own face. Since I knew this was going to be a pain in the ass, I decided to do half and half-- a mix between a skull and a pin -up. This is what happened.
Four hours later, and after giving myself quite the headache, I was thrilled with the outcome. I try to paint my face like that every year now, but I usually stick to the actual holiday, November 1st.
Then, there was Harley.
Harley Quinn has always been my favorite character from the Batman series. She's quirky, loud, mostly crazy, and in love-- which is eerily familiar.
I had always flirted with the idea of being Harley, but for one reason or another never did. That year, I jumped right in. I knew I wanted to keep as much classic Harley as I could, but the idea of wearing a jumpsuit and a huge head piece all night wasn't very appealing. I decided to do more of a Harley-clash.. half classic Harley, half of the darker Arkham Asylum Harley.
I ordered the leggings from Hot Topic, and bought a underbust corset on Amazon. I got a red and black tank top, cut them down the middle and sewed them together. I bought the wrist cuffs as well. I hand cut her cowel out of felt, and put red duct tape on one ankle boot.
I just needed blonde hair!
Since there way in hell that would ever happen to my dark hair, I went with a wig. That sucker weighs like 5 pounds. Nothing a little tequila can't fix!
Put it all together, and you get this-- ain't she is cutest?
Pop quiz, do you know how many Batman "fans" have no idea not only who I was, but then said, "she wasn't from Batman?"
Face palm.
One of the best things about that night meeting @Roz. Luckily, when I asked her if I could keep her-- she said yes! And we lived happily ever after :)
Unfortunately, I am going on a work trip this year so I won't be home on Halloween. I hope everyone enjoys being sexy in their costumes, funny, or successfully scaring the crap out of people.
