Its been a while since i last updated but i needed a break from what ive been doing so here i am.
In August i was taken on at my firm as a Mechanical Trainee, but i then found out there was a Graphic Designer position available, and since thats a step in the direction im looking to go in i snapped up the chance. Only problem is theyre still classing me as a trainee, which means i have to go to college. I hated school the first time round, and hate being 'taught' the 'proper' way to do something, maybe its the artist in me but i hate being told what to do, id rather figure it out myself. Also, in the creative industry, it doesnt matter if you have a fucking degree, all that matters is where youve been and what youve done and what you can brin to a job - experience!
Id much rather get experience in a job than waste a day every week going to college to learn some bullshit i dont wanna hear and wont appreciate when someone else could do it. If i have to look at a benefit, all i can think of is that ill only have a 4 day week at work.
Anyway, the reason im tellin you this is because tomorrow, or today since its 1am on tuesday morning, i have my interview for this poxy college course, and they want a portfolio. The problem is i dont have one. When i left high school i burnt everything to get rid of all the shit memories, i told the interviewer i didnt exactly have one and he was like "oh thats ok, just bring a scrapbook of things like magazine articles and layouts that excite you" - im sure plenty of you can think of great magazine articles youve read, but this is a graphic design course...so he aint talking about content, hes talking about page margins and gutters and what fonts they use and shit - i dont pay attention to that when im reading, in fact i can think of nothing more dull to spend my time thinking about.
So yep, its 1am and all ive done is make a PDF of pictures of adverts/film posters/some of the more recent design stuff ive done/and some concept art from games and films, since hats where i want to end up eventually.
Wish me luck :S
