SuperBowl 2013 Ad Commentary
Anheuser-Busch - "Budweiser Brotherhood" Disturbing man loving horse story. Visually overkill and oversold message. Not funny. If this pulled your heartstrings like supposedly they were going for. Uh get help. Now.
Tide - "Miracle Stain" Funny but played too long with a good ending making you forget how long it was.
Ram - "Farmer" great images not a fan of the paul harvey or religious slant, well ok more like religious punch in the face.
Doritos - "Fashonista Daddy" Too typical. Funny idea. Didn't like execution too over the top and classic ridiculous.
Jeep - "Whole Again" Seriously more religion and Oprah voice over. Honor the troops and their sacrifice but don't exploit it via a promo for your vehicle and brand.
Kia - "Space Babies" probably could have been better and may have been a winner but too much of a already been done via the etrade commercials I don't really like
Doritos - "Goat 4 Sale" Total winner but have admitted prejudice.
NFL - "Leon Sandcastle" Imagine that NFL fans love the spot but I thought it was cliche and ran way to long.
Hyundai - "Team Hit" Funny concept and good build with a weak ending.
Audi - "Prom" Good concept but don't like the glorification of basically what is considered to be sexual assault, kinda makes it look like being rich you can get away with anything and Audi supports the guys mentality of a person who pushes the boundaries of what can be gotten away with.
Taco Bell - "Viva Young" Liked the idea and the filming was nice but ran long and had to many corney over the top moments a good overall commercial just over played.
Coca Cola - "Security Camera" Liked the homemade look and feel made it feel genuine and upbeat with the music
M&M's - "Love Ballad" Liked. Funny slightly overkill on driving the point but liked overall.
Best Buy - "Asking Amy" loved the filming style and visual quality was top notch. Didn't like the message as I've never had a good experience with best buy and hate how they always push that they have idealic customer support and knowledge, but had funny moments. Thought the paring with Amy Pohler was strange but she did a good job.
Volkswagen - "Get Happy" Thought it was a funny story line that kept me interested. Liked the visuals on the car selling the look and fun. But thought the white guy presence was over the top. Funny commercial concerned about playing to a particular segment.
Skechers - "Untitled" with cheeta fucking horrible!
Toyota - "RAV4 Wish Granted" Was too long but funny overall and of course featuring Big Bang Theory hotness.
NFL - "Thank You" probably good again from a fan perspective. Thought it had funny elements but not my cup o tea cause I'm not a wear a jersey support the team that actually doesn't show up at your house or give a rats ass about you other than the cash flow they get from your mindless aligence.
Mercedes-Benz "Soul" Waste of celebrity appearance overselling the car and played the same as the audi commercial which took diluted the message. Left with feeling of goody goody gum drops here comes a buch of idiots in cheap mercedes.
Samsung "The Big Pitch" - Had a couple moments where it looked like it might get good. Super long drawn out way of selling features like samsung seems to want to communicate that it takes a really long time to see or find the values in their products.
Anheuser-Busch - "Bud Light Journey" WTF that was a waste of time and money
Hyundai - "Stuck" Had a few good relatable moments don't like that it catered to the don't wait for anything society. You can buy yourself ahead in life depending on the products you purchase.
Milk - "Morning Run" Milk is a super nasty industry and I hate how much money they are willing to spend on selling their products instead of cleaning up their super dirty super disgusting industry.
Speed Stick - "Laundry" Good job cashing in on the whole AXE theme. Didn't take the time but probably the same brand anyway. Lame dude, hot chick sexual implications. Panders to dumb guy mentality and AXE does a better job by far.
E*Trade - "Save It" have hated these commercials since they debuted. This one is the best and least annoying so far. Which means its a 9.89 out of 10 on the annoying meter. Looks like they are finally listening to people like me who hate the fucking baby talking stupidity by limiting its use to sell the message. Good to see the kids using a mac. Otherwise same old thing. Right away if you hate these you're gonna tune out and if you love them its more of the same and you're gonna forget it in 3 seconds. Complete fail.
Oreo - "Whisper" Good continuance of message without getting watered down or running over. Seems like memorability and originality will stick.
Walt Disney Pictures - "Iron Man 3" Not much to say as I'm not a fan of the franchise and haven't seen a single movie. Having said that the ad seemed like more of the same for this genre.
Wonderful Pistachios - "Crackin' Style" Good and powerful visually driving what the product is but strange pairing and comes across as desperate using such a played and tired craze.
Anheuser-Busch "Bud Light Lucky Chair" WTF just like WTF is annoying and lame so is this commercial. Is the scratch your head concept supposed to be what we remember the product as/by?
Coca Cola - "Mirage" Good visually, keeps your attention. Don't really get the dancing girl on the bus thing and believability of a bus dune worthiness is a stretch did make me want to see the conclusion though.
Cars.com - "Wolf" Had that one funny moment that was then overplayed. Also not a big fan of animals to sell products styling and even less so when it involves a wild animal. Overall left me feeling disfavor able to the Cars.com brand.
Kia - "Hot Bots" Don't really get it and lame. What's the deal. I'm thinking I am supposed to be intrigued about like "What really that lame Kia is packing the 'tech' gee I'm gonna hop on the web and check it out" um no. Lots of mixed message imagery too!
Walt Disney Pictures - "The Great and Powerful Oz" not a fan of the lets remake all the classics mentality. But this did look like a more interesting effort and possibly new direction where its basically the story not pretending to be a remake but a whole new vision and modernization. Probably won't see the movie but the commercial kept my interest.
Hyundai - "Epic Playdate" more of the same old dads are cool moms suck over the top "extreme" stupidity that doesn't seem to be dying off at all. More than likely hilarious to this mindset.
Soadstream - "Effect" Gotta say I am a fan of this commercial with bias. I likes the way it was shot. Thought it was powerful imagery and drove home the wow factor of the product. Bias because I like the element coincidental or not of the environmental benefits of a pretty scrutinized product. So it benefits the planet and doesn't preach that as a selling point. I like a company that intended or not figures out ways to lower impact on our dirty habits and makes it look cool.
Paramount Pictures - "Star Trek Into Darkness" Looked compelling in a quick effective way.
Blackberry - "My New Blackberry" Good company relaunch commercial. Visually keeps your attention bordering on over the top antics but not going over. About the right length and doesn't struggle to announce itself as something new like say Samsung with all their pitches.
Universal Pictures - "The Fast and the Furious 6" Sweet this idiot franchise continues with another over the top unbelievably cgi douche bag filled idiocy galore.
Century 21 - "Wedding" Didn't think it was funny and don't like the play to self centered people with over the top superficiality mindsets. Trying to be cleaver but comes across as insulting.
Gildan - "Getaway" Kept my interest because it kept looking like it was gonna be good. Alas though it kept my interest therefore exposing me to the brand I felt like it was a stretch to sell the concept of their message.
Subway - "Untitled" Good distraction and well filmed presented effort to distract us from the fact your foot longs are not foot longs.
Pepsi Next - "Party" Had a kinda good build up with a disappointing finish. Haven't had this beverage but now imaging more of the same.
Go Daddy - "Your Big Idea" I liked this one because this IS the reality of the next big idea mentality. Was shot well, more or less funny enough without being super lame. Didn't over sexify Danica and a good effort away from those other really really weak as pandering to the lowest mentality possible efforts they have had in the past.
Lincoln - "MKZ Phoenix" Kind over the top with no real delivery or wow factor. It kept my attention but also left me feeling disappointed. I guess that's the message for the brand.
Pepsi - "Anticipation" Good visual composition.
Mio Fit - "Anthem" Thought it was funny and kept my attention while effectively selling the products concept and usefulness. Side note: I think "enhanced" drinks are a joke. Which is half of why I liked the ad cause of the pairing they chose to represent that it pretty much is a joke.
AXE - "Lifeguard" Classic AXE pretty funny, good ending.
Lincoln - "Steer the Script" Um pairing with Jimmy Fallon didn't instantly give you hip like apparently you thought it did. And overall this commercial just left me confused more than anything. Are we selling Lincoln like its as desirable as a BMW or Lexus. I mean I could give a rats ass bout Lexus and BMW is an interesting company but seriously. Nice try. I guess.
Subway - "Untitled 2" Um yeah it's hard to say is the nation gonna sweep with youth showing how they can say it so super duper easy or are we just gonna be ALL scratching our heads going what the fuck Oh yeah that lawsuit thing. That's right.
Calvin Klein - "Concept" Um yeah.
Anheuser-Busch "Black Crown Celebration" Seems like this no longer american brand continues to want to sell a new type of beer that doesn't ever get any traction and always makes me wonder why so much energy and effort. Probably just a rebottled formula from another brand in the mega portfolio of beer beverages this company controls.
Anheuser-Busch - "Beck's Sapphire" If you read earlier not a fan of animals selling products. Animated variety included. Pure wackiness but I guess they are pushing to get more awareness to a product that their "segment" has more or less forgotten about.
Anheuser-Busch - "Black Crown Coronation" Hey wanna be pseudo hipsters who are not hip at all we give you full permission to complete your i'm not really hip imagery and smoke and mirrors with this I wanna be a hipster beer. Note to pseudo hipster. This will complete the package of identifying you as someone who has no clue or individuality or taste or wherewithal to make choices about your identity. You'll now look and piss sameness.
Go Daddy - "Perfect Match" I liked this ad. Liked they they put out two different ads moving away from the direction they were headed in with Danica and their branding which was super played. Hung on just long enough selling that turn away but keep watching effect.
Anheuser-Busch - "Budweiser Brotherhood" Disturbing man loving horse story. Visually overkill and oversold message. Not funny. If this pulled your heartstrings like supposedly they were going for. Uh get help. Now.
