Lately i've seen a lot about the news worthy controversy "Artist Richard Prince sells stolen Instagram photos for $90-$100k."
I never did much digging and seeing more about it until now when I stumbled across this picture, and SG @ceres is on the wall at the Gagosian in New York!
I do not know if SG or Ceres knows about this or is affliated in any way, just thought it should be shared.
Some say flattery and something new and exciting? In my opinion yes, it is hip and trendy and can be flattering but this is stealing and copyrighting and is against the law.
"1. Legally how can a model give away a photographers copyright because the model put it on Instagram?
2. How can it be called "Fair use" if the copyright owner gets nothing and the photocopier "Richard Prince" gets $90k?
3. Why do artists and art collectors standup for it and think its ok to bastardise and profit from others work?
and yes they call this “appropriating” because they removed my name and made his own commentary from the screenshot before printing." Words by photographer Peter Coulson who I agree with.
It appears Doe Deere of Lime Crime got her portrait bought for $90k and doesn't plan on going after him.
