Well I'm long overdue, so this is a long one. Hope you've got the patience to actually all the way through to the end...
After my last update I had to attend a family wedding up north. The third of my three female cousins to get hitched. It went pretty well, apart from a spot of rain. Far too traditional and unimaginative for my tastes though, and perhaps the most god-orientated service I've witnessed to date. It was nice to see the extended family (and I mean extended, it's like huge, the father-in-law of the day said 'i'm scared I've never seen such a big family') but I have so little in common with them it was rather surreal. Had to shrugs off various comments about not being married yet myself, and about my home needing a woman's touch blah blah blah anyone would think we weren't actually living in the 21st century after all, tsk.
Last weekend I was due to go on my first proper date in a while, but unfortunately she blew out due to some work thing. We've rescheduled for a couple of weeks hence but I can't help feeling the moment's passed us by. She seems nice enough and we've chatted quite a lot on e-mail, but I'm missing any kinda vibe. Although having said that, I don't think I've ever really had the vibe with anyone I've ever met anyway, it's just some fantasy of mine that one day I'll meet someone and just know. It also doesn't help that I'm a perfectionist bastard and intellectually it feels like I have to talk down to most of the girls that I meet (present company excluded). I guess I'm my own worst enemy (like everyone). We'll have to see. Tsk.
Work's rolling along, pretty much same as always. With the heat wave though the office has been pretty unbearable - two rows of glass on each side an no air con, it's literally like a greenhouse. And as I'm really the only person there all the time, I'm the only one to suffer the full force of it. And despite my moaning my bosses have yet to do anything about it. Fingers xssed that now it's turned cooler again it stays that way. One boss is particularly getting on my tits though - his continued mis-management of our VoIP system does my head in, and the other bosses are turning a blind eye and just seem happy that it's keeping him busy. I'm having to field all kinds of s*** from our customers who think it's a fully working service, and I'm getting f*** all out of our flaky Ukrainian developers, whose idea of an upgrade methodology is to just suck it and see. Tsk.
Brighter news though is that my remortgage has come though, finally. Dreadfully dull and domesticated I know, but it means I hang onto my place for a while longer, and free up some cash to buy a few toys and do a bunch of DIY (including probably a new kitchen after the New Year). Thinking about picking up an Ipaq or something equivalent so I can write on the tube and not have to worry about typing it up afterwards. We'll see.
I also got asked to be best man (again) this week for a friend who's finally popped the question to his other (and arguable better) half. Apparently they're planning to do the deed in Iceland or Finland or somewhere. Should make a refreshing alternative to what I had to go through a few weeks ago...
This weekend I had the pleasure of the company of fppk, who kindly brought over the DVD of Dave Gorman's Googlewhack adventure. Hadn't read the book or seen any of his other stuff, and was pleasantly surprised. It's such an amazing tale it proves once again the old adage that the truth is indeed stranger than fiction. We also went to see The Aristocrats yesterday, which while being hilarious and full of filth, wasn't quite as shocking as it could've been (and it was also interesting to note how many faces of comedy weren't included). The closing credits indicated that they're accepting submissions of versions of the joke on their web site for inclusion on the DVD. If anyone can think up an unprecedented amount of shocking and yet humourous nastiness it's going to be some of the people reading this...
I'm also in TV heaven right now. Not only am I half-way through Lost, Wonderfalls, Deadwood s2 and The Shield s4, but this week Carnivale s2 and The Dead Zone s4 are starting too! Things have never been so good, and unlikely to come anywhere close again for years. And to top it all fppk's lent me 24 s1 and Alias s1 too - managed to miss both shows completely so they're both new experiences for me. 24's not bad but IMHO I'm not sure it's been worth the hype - some of it's been compelling, but some of it's plain ridiculous - still I'm not complaining I've seen a hell of a lot worse...

Is it a biscuit though? I think he may be about ready to re-light his joint...
