Well Monday rolls around again. Goddamn the weekends are just never long enough these days.
Friday, after an exasperating day at work, I did go and see the Interpreter as planned. A splendid, intelligent, thrilling yarn I thought. Not sure why the posters mention a big twist, because IMHO there isn't really a twist, but it's good nonetheless. I like the way that although the atrocities in Africa it depicts are fiction, it does serve to remind that these things have (and do still) happen for real. Very nicely understated performances from both Kidman and Penn. And a very respectable Afrikaans style accent from the former. After that went home and had a few beers in front of Minority Report on DVD, possibly Spielberg at his best (despite the silly paradoxes of the story).
Saturday rolled out of bed to buy pet things and to pick up my Sith robe from the post office (Parcel Force delivered to the wrong branch, making me go out of my way, grr). Tidied up at home and then ended up dozing off again, making me run late for SuicideDoggie's birthday bash in town. Actually got to talk to whole bunch of people I hadn't managed to talk to before, which was nice. Had a whole load of Guiness and whisky and then found then the pub had a late license, and I'd already missed the last tube. Stuck it out until 2.00am but when promises of going on out somewhere (Slimelight?) evaporated I scarpered. Only to stand about for bloody 90mins waiting for a nightbus, then discovering at the other end that RBS were running late night maintenance preventing me from getting any cash for a cab so I had to walak - all in all an arduous journey home which saw me getting indoors just as the sun was creeping over the horizon. Tsk.
Sunday roused myself to head back to see my folks and to enlist their help in (finally) rescuing my drum kit from the studio in Southend where it's been gathering dust for the last 3 yrs or so. Cut to many feelings of deja vu and nostalgia. God knows when I'll use it next. I suppose yet another incentive to try and learn to drive (even though I can't afford it). Caught some of the best 100 albums thing on TV at dinner time - WTF? Radiohead can f*** right off. Not as crap as the comedy one from last time, but still a load of obscure and/or lame entries. Where the hell do they find the brainless morons that they use for these polls?
