Well it's the end of the week thank god. Wasn't as slow as last week, but still pretty lame and I'm glad to be done with it all the same *phew*
Have to say that despite the hype I'm not really that impressed with GTA:SA. Not that I don't appreciate how big the map is, how open-ended the gameplay is and how many sub-games there are, it's just the actual player experience of every little bit of it is rough around the edges at best, and downright shoddy at worst. And we've seen most it before in Vice City, except that last time it was a much smoother, slicker ride. My housemate has already given up playing it out of frustration and I don't blame him. Roll on Half Life 2 & Bloodlines next week, that's all I can say... *drools*
In other news I'm reading about the Victorians as some preliminary research for a game of my own that I finally want to get off the ground. TBH although I'm pretty big on ancient history I'm much more fuzzy on more recent history. I never realised how bad the famine in Ireland was, nor how laughably inept the Crimean War was. And it looks like our politics and government hasn't changed a great deal really over the intervening century or so. TBH I'm not sure that, considering our Victorian heritage, being English is something to be that proud of...
This weekend will probably be fairly low-key giving the horrible state of my finances. To make matters worse I've just discovered it's likely to cost me ~200 to get to Paris for New Year for my step-sister's wedding, which is money I certainly don't have to spare right now, what with xmas and all. And there's lots of shiny things to buy too in the interim. Argh.
But tonight I hope to catch Bad Santa on the way home, which should cheer me up nicely. And a prolonged session of whiskey and Medieval: Total War with an old friend tomorrow to look forward to as well...
Hope the rest of you have a good weekend too!

I simply don't have the patience to complete a game that... "big." I just want to blow off steam. My feeling is, if a game is causing me stress, it's defeating the purpose.
Funny, I just finished a script set in 1888 (yeah, you can probably figure out one of the plot elements ) Victorian society is damn interesting, as the outwardly "porper" customs were but a veneer for the decay that was eating away at every facet of society.
Anyway, have a great weekend!
