Tsk well here I am back in not-so-sunny no-so-friendly London. Nice to see my house and my animals again but in some ways the break wasn't long enough. Mind you, having said that I don't think I could have hung out at my dad's place for much longer without going nuts.
It's quite strange seeing dad and stepmom finally coming of age. They're both in their 50s and after a long history of acting in an extremely selfish and immature fashion, it looks like they're starting to smell the coffee. The irony of it is I think they also realise they're a bit late to really cash in on it as they're on the verge of retirement.
In theory you'd think that would free up more time for them to develop hobbies and get a better sense of themselves, but they're currently going through a stage of bemoaning about how shallow other people are, how lonely and bored they are, and about how they've been shortchanged by materialist, capitalist society. The stuff they're spouting now is stuff I've done my homework on years ago, but I've already accepted life for what it is and am just getting on with it, whereas they still don't seem to have got there yet.
They're the ones who moved to live in bloody France in the first place anyway, and they should have realised that the availability of decent English-speaking company was going to be hard to come by. And despite me lauding the Internet as a all-conquering solution to their social dilemmas, it obviously fell on deaf ears. It's like they want to have their cake *and* eat it, like it's their god-given right, and they're thusly put-upon unfairly. Sorry folks, but the world simply doesn't work that way. Tsk.
