My family coming down was good...
The highlight though?
The conversation with my sis about Africa. She is working on the Malaria virus right now, trying to find a cheeper vacination since the pharmy companies will not provide the African people with the stuff we give our troops, and employees abroad (to spendy).
The more we talked the more I wanted to bring up the "Why" question to her, like "your a biologist, Mom's a biologist, why the fuck do you care if people die, it's the natural cycle of life, maybe we need to thin the herd?" It was a devils advocate question to two of the most intellegent women I know (other then Mogwa). I asked because sometimes I just want to see all this shit just blow up, and my sisters optimism is crucial in keeping my head out of the despair that I allow it to slip into. Her answer:
"Humans are parasites, but ultimatelly it is the humans in the first world that are the most parasitick. Not only do they suck the worlds resources dry, but also those of their own species...
...Look at it this way, this is the way I look at not helping Africa: If you walked by, and saw a young child drowning in a pool on the street, would you walk by, or would you take the split second necessary to lift his/her head out of the water? See, the shit we aren't doing for Africa is the equivalent of that action, it takes very little effort, it's cheap, it's easy, and ultimatelly it's not doing it is the same as simply walking by and not picking that kids head up out of the water"
Good answer...
My response:
"True, I agree. But here is my question: What do you do if your walking down that street, and rather then it being a kid drowning because he/she slipped, but rather because some man is holding his/her head under the water. Then what do you do? Do you simply walk by because you don't want to physically challenge the man's actions, do you attempt to talk him out of the sittuation he's put that child in, do you call the police and wait for the "timely" arrival to deal with the sittuation, or do you fucking push the asshole off the child, force him back, then save the child?"
We both agree we wouldn't walk by the child, and we would both force the man off the child. We both agree things need to get done in africa, now! But, those dicks that are holding the continents head under water? Yea, what the fuck do we do about that??? Currently the entire fucking world is simply walking by, looking at the man horrified, then going on their way... Not wanting to send ripples, we sit back while millions die, millions we could all easily save if we just took the fucking time too...
