last night on ABC there was a special about food and the government and america being so fucking fat. part of the problem is that the government subsidizes corn crops, which become high fructose corn syrup, but it doesn't do nearly as much for fruits and vegetables. so the gov't makes it easier for farmers to make junk food than to make healthy food. yet the gov't's food pyramid says to eat the least of the foods it is helping to make the most of.
michelle and i were sitting there astounded and said "ok, no more food in a box."
they also talked to a fucking dirtbag who works for a marketing company who targets kids. he blamed parents for their kids being fat, not his company that plasters junk food with cartoon characters and cute songs.
the thing is, that kind of makes sense, BUT when parents have to work and their not home and their kids are watching tv who is supposed to tell these kids they're being manipulated?

There's an interesting, if not purely evil, section about how McDonalds is helping finance education, and how this leads to a presence in the schools. Also, it says that Ronald McDonald is the second most recognized figure to children; second to Santa Claus.
Its a scary book.
