On my way home from the gym/grocery store today, I ran into a little old lady (not literally) coming from another grocery store who I usually see out walking an ancient Pomeranian. And while it's probably bad form to find humor in another's infirmity, even a pet's, it was hard not at least smile at how this old dog seemed to try to go every direction at once.
The lady seemed to be struggling with her bags, so I offered to help her out. And in the short walk that followed, she told me that the dog had died four days ago and she couldn't tell her husband because he was still in the hospital recovering from a pacemaker operation. And all the while, she kept worrying about me straining myself carrying my groceries and hers in the other...
Some days just break your heart.
