I remember when you

Saved

Those baby ducks

The summer

You were a security gaurd.

Their mother

Had marched them all

Over a sewer grating

And there they dropped

Trusting and unknowingly

Down

Down

One by one by one

To the slime below…

You had places to go then

Doors to check

But you stayed

Until the fire men showed.

You were that way always

Stopping

Like the Samaritan in the parable

Stopping smiling

Rescuing with gentle human drumming

From the dark

Once more.
