A sonic boom
Sounding in the
Faultless sky
Always made us kids look up
From prison ball and hopscotch
Treasure Island
And
Hardy Boys…
We would always look up
Anxiously
Up over mother's
White
Clothesline flags
Discard our
Jacks
Our dominoes
The world around us
From Mrs. Folger’s
Sunflowers
All the way to Eddy Street
Ruptured
And peeled
Once
Again
By this
Claw…
We would listen
The cause of this all
Explained
By rational parents
In the TV glow
Of suburban nights
But no
In those
Faultless afternoons
We always managed
To drop our ice cream
To the
Inscrutable
Ants…
