I have got back to racing bikes again! I have worked in the industry for a while but this year is the first one where my work fits completely around the classic motorcycle racing I love to do as an "enthusiastic amateur". I had my first race in around 2 years at the Trac Mon circuit in Anglesey and was pretty nervous in the run up. In the past I have always been pretty competitive, however after a long lay off I was concerned that I may struggle to return to form. Anyway Anglesey is a track where I have had a lot of success over the years and is also where I had my first ever race win!
Its an amazing track in a beautiful location.
Usually I race three bikes a 250, 350 and 500. For this round the 250 and 500 are having some major engine revamps which I'll blog about later when I have more pictures.
Anyway, a nice fella has loaned me another 250, a pair actually. Two little Ducatis, a fast one and a slower one, sadly the quick one was out of action after the engine shit itself (the technical term) during testing a week or two before the race. That left just the slow one, after a difficult time on the first day when we had some teething trouble the little Italian bike came good and scored a few 6th places over the line and 4th in its class.
Next up was the time for my races on the 350 which is tuned by my brother, I have raced this for a good while now and know it pretty well, we have had a re-occurring electrical problem with it which he solved. Anyway I had a blast on it all weekend, really getting my skills back and scored four 2nd places and a 3rd. I was getting closer to beating one of my long term rivals by the last couple of races but I started over riding and nearly got spat off a few times so I settled for what I had.
Sea views over the top of the hill.
I love this last shot, it looks like I am riding in his bike with him!
My next race is at a place called Tonfanau on the 25th of may followed by a round at Mallory Park on 14/15th of June. Head over and say hello if you are in the area.
