Life finally seems to be on the up for me. Which is good, because turning 35 did very little to encourage positivity from me. I do not think it was the age so much (that ain't nothing but a number) but rather an utterly failed attempt by my wife and children to give me a "special day". Instead I got whining, hemming and hawing and presents not really bought with me in mind. Not exactly the special day I had in mind.
Depression remains a constant struggle and the failure to meet hopes and dreams can easily start another spiral. But I made the decision to avoid medication if possible and that means dealing with those holes when they happen to the best of my ability.
Writing helps. Shadowrun Returns also helps. And stopping by here strangely can put me in a better mood too.
So I focus on things I enjoy. Things I can control. And I look to the future and ways to frame my writing and bring it to the world.
One way, I expect, will be Kickstarter. Plans are in action for my first attempt at a writing project, a series of inter-connected short stories that will attempt to bring a superhero to life in prose form through monthly stories, all part of my grand experiments with prose and superheroes.
Speaking of those experiments, Walking Shadows continues its daily run. I have already produced seven months of new content there. I am really delving in to the life now of the six young men and women that make up the primary cast. They are all super-powered beings, but none of them look to be a superhero. It creates an interesting dynamic that I have absolutely loved to mine in a hundred to two hundred words a day.
I am currently reading David Byrne's How Music Works. I am far from a musician (nor am I even all that passionate about music) but I find a lot that speaks to my creative mind here. It is a fascinating disseratation on aural stimulation and how it works on our minds in different ways. I highly recommend it.
All right, enough naked ladies and personal passages. I have writing to do.
I now have a tumblr thingee if anyone is interested.
