So I've started to make an effort to turn my life around from depression, walk out of the hole I dug for myself in so much of the first few months of the year.
One way I'm doing that is by going back to writing, and more importantly, finding ways to challenge myself to get the creative juices flowing like they should. I spent far too many months not really producing anything and the pressure to find away to make the writing appear just made life that much harder for me.
In order to make writing happen, I started an experiment. I created a daily updating blog, a new story set in the kind of world Suicide Girls might love. It focuses on six young people from a fictional city, all of them from rather different backgrounds, all drawn together because they happen to possess superhuman abilities. They don't much like each other and they don't always get along, but they're on the run and have to work together if they hope to survive.
I am already months in to the story (entitled Walking Shadows) and I have set up a nice interaction between the characters so far. The story updates with a hundred or so words daily and will progress to the "Book One" climax within the next two months or so. But I hope to keep it going and experiment with my melding of slice of life fiction with super powers.
And overall, it is just a good feeling to be writing again.
Anyone that wants to check the story out can do so here. To start from the beginning, go here.
